Lichina pygmaea – Fruticose(erect tufted) dark brown to black thallus forming extensive mats up to 1cm.high and 30cm. across. Much larger than L.confinis and smells of embrocation when crushed. Fruiting bodies spherical and up to 2mm.diam. Found lower down the shore than L.confinis, in the barnacle zone, on sunny south facing exposed shores.(cf.red seaweed Catenella opuntia on sheltered shady shores).
